What does the abbreviation GTIN mean?

The GTIN is an 8- or 13-digit number used to identify trade units. It replaces the EAN (European Article Number) in global use.

Structure:

  • Country + Company prefix
  • Item number
  • Check digit

GTINs are scannable via barcodes and used in:

  • Retail (POS scanning)
  • Warehousing (inventory control)
  • Supply chain optimization

They enable tracking, pricing, and analysis across product lifecycles.
