What does the abbreviation AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) stand for?

AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) is the English term for what is called fahrerloses Transportfahrzeug (FTF) in German. An AGV is an automated transport unit used in warehouses to move materials and goods. These are floor-based vehicles designed for internal transport tasks only. AGVs may be autonomously or automatically guided. If guided automatically, they follow virtual or physical paths. If autonomous, they determine their own route to the destination. This increases flexibility and adaptability within warehouse operations. The advantages of Automated Guided Vehicles include optimized control of material flows, reduced need for personnel, and high availability and performance.
