In block storage, goods are stored directly on the floor, side-by-side and stacked on top of each other in large blocks. Only the topmost and outermost units are directly accessible.
Advantages:
- Low investment costs
- Minimal personnel and space requirements
- Few site requirements
- High flexibility and low susceptibility to failure
Disadvantages:
- Only homogeneous goods can be stored (same item, batch number, expiration date, etc.)
- Only LIFO (Last In, First Out) is possible
- No automation options
