What does the abbreviation DGR stand for?

DGR stands for dangerous goods regulations. These are the regulations issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the transport of dangerous goods in aviation. While DGR applies exclusively to air freight, the general GGV (German Hazardous Goods Ordinance) covers all other modes of transport such as road, rail, and sea.

The provisions within the Dangerous Goods Regulations specify which hazardous materials, in what combinations and quantities, may be transported by air cargo. Some goods, according to DGR, may only be shipped in cargo aircraft, while others are permitted in passenger transport as well. Moreover, the DGR not only regulates the commercial shipment of goods but also defines what items may be carried by crew members and private passengers.
