What qualifies as dangerous goods?

Dangerous goods are materials or items that can pose a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment during transport or improper handling. They are classified into nine hazard classes, based on their physical properties, state, and specific risks.

Packaging and vehicles transporting such goods must display hazard labels – diamond-shaped symbols in various colors, indicating the specific hazard.
In road transport, vehicles must also carry orange warning signs on the front and back.

Types of Dangerous Goods

A warehouse management system (WMS) can help ensure safe and compliant storage of hazardous materials.

Hazard classes include:

  • Class 1: Explosives and items containing explosives
  • Class 2: Compressed, liquefied, or dissolved gases
  • Class 3: Flammable liquids
  • Class 4: Flammable solids, substances prone to spontaneous combustion, and substances that emit flammable gases when in contact with water
  • Class 5: Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides
  • Class 6: Toxic and infectious substances
  • Class 7: Radioactive materials
  • Class 8: Corrosive substances
  • Class 9: Miscellaneous dangerous goods not covered by other classes
