Disposition occurs in various areas of logistics, essentially covering the areas purchasing, warehousing and transport. In keeping with the Latin term ‘disposition’ – which means administration, allocation, decision, arrangement, disposition – tasks involve everyday organizational logistics. Disposition decides when and how orders can be implemented. Depending on the sector, decisions are either consumption-driven or demand-driven and should be implemented at the lowest possible costs. Economic considerations and a good overview of stock levels and transport capacities are therefore a crucial part of scheduling. Another disposition task is to place repeat orders in good time if stock of certain items is running low.
