In dynamic slot allocation, multiple storage locations between two shelf uprights are grouped into a “field”. Different load carrier types (e.g., Euro or industrial pallets) may occupy varying space within a field. When a field becomes available, the system may reassign it flexibly, based on the first pallet type stored.
Unlike fixed location systems, individual slots are not permanently assigned to specific items. Dynamic field allocation is only permitted in systems using the “S” strategy (system-based slot assignment).
