What is meant by just-in-time?

In a just-in-time system, parts are delivered exactly when needed, synchronized with production.

Key characteristics:

  • no storage at the customer’s site
  • Supplier holds responsibility for inventory
  • Delivery may occur via rolling warehouses (e.g., truck storage)

Just-in-time requires short transport distances and reliable communication. In the automotive sector, suppliers are often located near or on-site.
