What is a logistics software?

The term logistics software generally refers to various types of software systems, such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Transport Management Systems (TMS).
In a narrower sense, it can also refer to software that is specifically designed to support and optimize forwarding and transport operations.
In a broader context, logistics software encompasses processes related to warehousing and internal material handling, which it manages and automates.

Key Functions of Logistics Software Include:

  • Executing goods transport operations – from picking and packaging to route planning and final delivery
  • Calculating and invoicing logistics services
  • Managing the vehicle fleet and staff scheduling
  • Providing service-oriented functions, such as shipping updates and electronic shipment tracking
  • Capturing goods receipt data and storage processes

Logistics software thus enables the end-to-end management of the entire supply chain.
Inventory data and performance analyses can be compiled into clear reports, helping identify areas where adjustments may be needed.

This type of software can either be integrated into an existing IT infrastructure or provided as a browser-based service.
