What does multi-warehouse capability mean?

Multi-warehouse capability is an important feature of warehouse management software, enabling companies to gain a comprehensive overview of all warehouse locations.

This also allows for physically separated warehouse locations to be represented within the system. Identical items can therefore be easily retrieved from different warehouses.

Different systems and structures of multi-warehouse capability include:

  • Hierarchical multi-warehouse systems with assortment structuring
  • Disposition-based multi-warehouse systems: orders can be placed for multiple warehouses at once using quantity scaling
  • Network-style multi-warehouse systems: order placement and delivery can occur at different warehouse locations
