What are rugged computers?

A rugged computer is essentially a computer designed for use under challenging conditions. Especially in industrial environments, things can be particularly rough and demanding. For this reason, rugged computers have been developed with reinforced outer casings and other durability features.

Additional features of rugged computers include:

  • Protection from vibration, corrosion, and abrasion
  • Sealed keyboards, including dust and dirt protection
  • Resistance to extreme heat and high humidity
  • Shielding against electromagnetic interference
  • Shock resistance – impacts do not cause damage
