Telematics is a combination of telecommunications and informatics. It links data from at least two information systems, typically through a telecommunication network and data processing software.
The term telematics originated from a 1978 scientific study on information processing in society. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) use telematics to collect, transmit, process, and use traffic data to control and monitor traffic via modern ICT systems. In logistics, telematics plays a crucial role in efficient traffic and fleet management.
