What is meant by unit of measure in logistics?

The unit of measure is the base unit in which an item is managed within the warehouse management system.

It refers to countable or measurable quantities, e.g.:

  • Pieces (pcs)
  • Liters (l)
  • Meters (m)
  • Kilograms (kg)

It is a key parameter for order processing and inventory tracking. In industries such as cosmetics or food, multiple packaging sizes may exist for one product. To maintain accurate master data, consistent unit definitions are essential.
