LIFO is a picking method where the most recently stored item is the first to be removed.
The storage process is called “push,” and the retrieval process is called “pop.”
Common LIFO-compatible storage types:
- Block storage
- Drive-in racking
Advantages:
- simple to implement
- helps prevent fraudulent profit manipulations
Disadvantages:
- ineffective in industries with expiration dates or cold chains (e.g., food, pharmaceuticals)
- cannot be used where FEFO or FIFO is required
