Value Added Services (VAS) and Service Orders – Configuration & Processes

EPG ONE WMS Specialist Courses – VAS and Service Orders

VAS and Service Orders

Learn how to configure and execute Value Added Services (VAS) in LFS as part of your inbound and outbound flows. Based on the LFS Foundation and Key User outlines, this course focuses on how VAS is set up, triggered, and processed in combination with putaway, picking, packing, and shipping so you can reliably implement customer‑specific service steps in the warehouse.

Who This Course Is For:

  • LFS key users responsible for process and master data setup
  • Warehouse and logistics supervisors managing customer‑specific services
  • Operations staff involved in performing VAS on the shop floor
  • IT / support staff who assist with configuration and troubleshooting around VAS

What You’ll Learn

Understand the role of VAS in the overall LFS process landscape (inbound, outbound, QA, packing, shipping)

Configure the necessary master data and keys for VAS (e.g. item/transaction attributes, VAS definitions, links to QA/packing)

Integrate VAS into putaway and picking flows, including when VAS is triggered and how it appears in work packages and lists

Execute VAS steps in daily operations (e.g. relabeling, repacking, kitting, quality‑related services) and document the results in LFS

Evaluate and monitor VAS activities to ensure quality, transparency, and correct downstream handling (e.g. packing, shipping, billing if applicable)

Identify and resolve common configuration and process issues related to VAS

Built for Smarter, Faster Shipping Operations

Our Course Content

Throughout the 5 days, participants work through practical examples and guided exercises to apply each concept directly in the system.

Module 1: Introduction to VAS in LFS

  • Position of VAS within the LFS process model (connection to QA, putaway, picking, packing, shipping)
  • Typical business use cases: relabeling, repacking, additional checks, kitting, customer‑specific handling
  • Overview of how VAS is represented in LFS (master data, keys, process steps)

Module 2: Master Data & Key Settings for VAS

  • Relevant item and order master data fields for VAS
  • Key settings that control when and how VAS is triggered (e.g. in combination with QA and packing keys mentioned in your key user outline)
  • Linking VAS definitions to customers, articles, or processes

Module 3: VAS in Inbound & Putaway Processes

  • How VAS can be initiated during or after goods receipt and putaway
  • Interaction with QA: when quality checks imply additional value‑adding steps
  • Example scenarios: relabeling on inbound, repacking before storage
  • Hands‑on: configuring and executing simple inbound‑related VAS flows

Module 4: VAS in Outbound, Picking & Packing

  • Triggering VAS from customer orders or picking (e.g. customer‑specific packing, kitting)
  • Integration of VAS with work packages, picking lists, and packing processes
  • Example scenarios: adding documents or inserts, creating kits, special packing instructions
  • Hands‑on: running VAS steps as part of the outbound chain up to loading/shipping

Module 5: Execution, Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • How operators see and confirm VAS tasks in LFS (lists, work packages, related overviews)
  • Monitoring open/completed VAS activities and ensuring nothing is missed before goods move on
  • Typical problems (missing configuration, wrong triggers, incomplete documentation) and how to fix them
  • Best practices for designing VAS processes that fit both customer requirements and warehouse reality
